The digital license will be available only in Germany, though it may inspire similar changes across the European Union. Drivers will need to register their license through an official app before use. However, for travel abroad, carrying a physical license may still be necessary.

This system is also expected to benefit law enforcement, making it easier to check licenses, track suspensions, and issue fines. While Germany will roll out the system in April 2025, full implementation across the EU could take longer.
