On August 15, 2024, environmental activists from the group “Letzte Generation” staged protests at four major airports in Germany, causing major disruptions to air traffic. The airports targeted were Berlin, Cologne/Bonn, Nuremberg, and Stuttgart. Around 5 am, eight activists entered the runways and glued themselves to the ground, holding banners with messages like “Oil kills” and “Sign the treaty.” Their actions led to the suspension or restriction of flights at all four airports, according to heute.at.

Anja Windl, also known as “Klima-Shakira,” was one of the participants in the Stuttgart protest. She stated that the protests would continue until environmental destruction stops. “Solange systematisch unsere Lebensgrundlagen vernichtet werden, hören unsere Proteste nicht auf” (As long as our life resources are systematically destroyed, our protests will not stop).
