Kindergeld in November 2024
In 2024, the Kindergeld amount remains at 250 euros per month for each child, the same as in the previous year. Starting in 2025, this benefit will be replaced by a new family allowance system, which may allow some parents to receive more than 600 euros per month per child. However, it’s important to note that the Familienkasse is increasing its checks, and some families in Germany have already had to repay their Kindergeld due to this scrutiny.
Kindergeld is available to:
- All children under 18 years old
- Children in school up to 25 years old
- Unemployed children up to 21 years old
To apply for Kindergeld, at least one parent must have been legally employed in Germany for a minimum of six months. Self-employed individuals or posted employees can also qualify for this benefit.

Kindergeld payment dates in November 2024
Beneficiaries should know that payments may be delayed during weekends and public holidays. In Germany, there is no specific day guaranteed for receiving Kindergeld. The payment dates depend on the last digit of the Kindergeldnummer. If the last digit is 0, payments are made at the start of the month. Those with a last digit of 1 receive their payments next, followed by those with the last digit 2. People with the last digit 9 will get their payments at the end of the month. This system helps spread out the payments throughout the month.

Supplement to Kindergeld: This is the amount of Kinderzuschlag in 2024
The Kinderzuschlag, or child supplement, is an additional payment made alongside the Kindergeld in Germany, available to low-income families, including Polish citizens residing in Germany. As of January 1, 2024, families with lower incomes can receive up to 292 euros per child, an increase from the previous amount of 250 euros per month that was applicable until the end of 2023. This child allowance is designed to support parents earning an average income.
Beneficiaries who are already receiving this additional benefit or those who applied for it before January 2024 will automatically see the new amount reflected in their payments, meaning no further action is required on their part.
