Coronavirus in Germany: Quarantine abolished for EU citizens after crossing the border

In Mid may, all federal states issued ordinances requiring EU citizen as well as Iceland, Liechstein, Norway, Switzerland and the UK with Northern Ireland to be exempted from compulsory coronavirus quarantine upon arrival in Germany. Quarantine still applies to third-country nationals.

The relaxation of restrictions on coronavirus quarantine is the result of the implementation by the governments of individual Germany by the recommendation of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Germany regarding the release of European Union and European Economic Area citizens from the mandatory quarantine of 14 days after arriving in Germany.
Detailed information on applicable quarantine regulations can be obtained from your local health office .

Most German still have a 14-day quarantine for third-country nationals.

During quarantine, stay in the apartment and follow the instructions of the police and local health authorities (German Gesundheitsamt). For example, you cannot receive visits from people outside your household. If possible, the quarantined person should be in a separate room and be separated from the rest of the household.

More than half of Germans do not support the government’s plan to ease coronavirus restrictions. According to the “Deutschlandtrend” poll, which is run by public broadcaster ARD, 56% of the respondents prefer to keep the restrictions in place. The same percentage of people said they were against Bundesliga football teams continuing the season. Germany has been gradually lifting the lockdown imposed in mid-March.
