Weather alert in Germany: possibility of tornadoes and floods

Weather alert in Germany: The German Weather service is currently warning of violent storms and tornadoes. The worst case is to be reported in the South and West of Germany. Here is the weather forecast for the next few days:

5:00 PM Update The German Weather Service (DWD) now warns of extreme storms (dark red warning level) in certain counties  of North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate. The following regions are particularly affected:

  • Kreis Heinsberg
  • Stadt Achen
  • Landkreis of Düren
  • Rhein-Erft-Kreis
  • Stadt Köln
  • Rhein-Sieg-Kreis
  • Kreis Euskirchen
  • Kreis Ahrweiler
  • Kreis Neuwied
  • Kreis Mayen-Koblenz
  • Kreis Rhein-Lahn-Kreis
  • Kreis Cochem-Zell
  • Kreis Vulkaneifel
  • Kreis Bernkastel-Wittlich
  • Kreis Bitburg-Prüm
  • Kreis Trier-Saarburg und Stadt Trier
  • Kreis Birkenfeld
  • Rhein-Hunsrück-Kreis

Strong storms might also rreach the Saarland and Baden-Württemberia as well as Bavaria, Thuringia, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony.

Weather forecast for Wednesday

On Tuesday, the storm line will move north and east in the evening. On Wednesday (July 14) it can also go to Berlin, but as the hours go by, the situation will start to improve. Burzowo will be in northern Bavaria and Thuringia, Lower Saxony, Brandenburg and North Rhine-Westphalia. In these areas there can be very heavy rainfall (30 to 50 l / m² of rain can drop in a short time).

Weather forecast for Thursday

On Thursday (15 July) in the west of Germany, from southern North Rhine-Westphalia to Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, you can expect again heavy rains and violent storms. It will drop up to 150 liters of water per square meter (in some areas up to 200 liters of water per square meter). Floods can also occur there.
