Germany: Police intensify traffic controls throughout the country and the whole of Europe

In Germany the police have intensified controls throughout the country. Increased road checks will continue until 18 October in Germany and all over Europe.

Operation Trucks & Bus will focus primarily on heavy goods vehicles. Officers will check the psychophysical condition of truck and bus drivers and their compliance with the standards regulating the time of work and rest – says the Trans.info website. 

In addition, during the inspection, the police will check the technical condition of the vehicles and proper securing of the cargo.

The action is carried out in countries belonging to ROADPOL, i.e. in: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, France, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Great Britain, Estonia and Italy.

ROADPOL, i.e. the European Road Traffic Police Network, operating until 2019 as TISPOL.

The most important control activities carried out by TISPOL include:

  • European Operation “Mermaid” (“Mermaid”) concerning the control of the transport of the so-called “Heavy”: the technical condition of multi-ton trucks and offenses committed by drivers of this rolling stock
  • European Operation “Bus” aimed at the control of passenger transport by bus, mainly during the summer and winter holidays and increased tourist trips
  • European action to prevent speeding and the disregard for the obligation to wear seat belts
  • the action “Alkoholi i Narotyki”, the aim of which is to reveal and eliminate the drivers of vehicles “after alcohol” or “after drugs”.

These actions take place simultaneously in all TISPOL member states and last several days.
