With the current state of the coronavirus in Germany the government have had to discuss new strategies to deal with the rate of infection and even the high number of deaths. The virus has sent the European giant into a second wave. Here are some updates on the state of coronavirus in Germany:

Shortage of vaccines accused of being election strategy

Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) has asked the coalition partner to act together in the Corona crisis. “In this really difficult phase of the pandemic, I think the citizens rightly expect unity and determination from their government,” he said on Tuesday in the ARD “Morgenmagazin”. 

Retail faces the greatest increase in sales since 1994

German retailers increased their sales more sharply than ever before. According to estimates by the Federal Statistical Office, they are expected to be 5.3 percent more than in 2019. This is the strongest increase since these statistics began in 1994.

Online and mail-order businesses were among the beneficiaries of the corona crisis, with sales growing by 24 percent.

City Day warns of loosening the lockdown

The German Association of Cities warned against premature loosening of the lockdown before the federal-state consultations. The measures should “not be relaxed until a stable downward trend in new infections can be seen all over Germany,” said City Council President Burkhard Jung (SPD) to the newspapers of the Funke media group. “The lockdown will only have a lasting effect if it is continued nationwide and not weakened in individual countries,” warned the Mayor of Leipzig.

The top-level discussion between Chancellor Angela Merkel and the 16 prime ministers does not begin until 1 p.m. today. 

RKI announces 327 300 active cases in Germany

According to the figures from the Robert Koch Institute, there are around 327,300 active corona cases in Germany, this has led to debated recently on the extending of the lockdown period of time here>>>.

The government is not set n the idea o school reopening as they are major contamination areas with a lot of contact activity and can end up breaking into an infection hub.

Large majority in favour of extending the lockdown

A large majority of Germans are in favour of an extension of the lockdown to contain the corona pandemic.
