Corona bonus: Health Minister Jens Spahn announces new premium for employees in intensive care units

Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn announced at a press conference a new premium for employees in intensive care units. There will again be a corona bonus in Germany for those working in intensive care units, the federal government will also order vaccines for the coming flu season and the support program for the public health service will be increased.

Sueddeutsche reported that Spahn praised the work that the doctors, cleaning staff, but above all the nurses in the intensive care units had done in recent months. These are “hard layers”, both psychologically, in view of the seriously ill patients, as well as physically.

“As a society we are grateful for this commitment,” said the Minister of Health. Therefore, the federal government is providing 450 million euros – more than twice as much as last time as the corona bonus.

The money will be given to hospitals in which a minimum number of corona patients have been treated and distributed to the employees there. Employees could receive up to 1500 euros tax-free. However, there had been criticism of this method because nurses had not received the first premium if the number of patients in their hospitals was just below the limit.
