A three-year old Ghanaian baby died in Santa Lucia di Piave, Conegliano, Treviso, northern Italy after having a respiratory arrest. The baby was suffering from epilepsy.
Last Tuesday evening when the father was unable to wake up the baby, he desperately sought help by dialling 118 (the ambulance service number).
Doctors immediately rushed to the family home with an ambulance, a medical car and a helicopter.
They intubated the baby on the spot and tried to resuscitate her for over an hour but without success. The baby was declared dead when they arrived at the Emergency department of Conegliano hospital.
The Ghanaian community in Conegliano is struggling to cope with this death. The medical management of the Conegliano hospital has expressed their closeness and sent a message of condolence to the family.
