Voter registration of Kenyans in Germany and other EU countries has kicked off today at the Kenya Embassy in Berlin.
Officials of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) who arrived from Kenya purposely to carry out the voter registration are performing the task in a tent within the Kenya Embassy Berlin compound.
Many Kenyans in Germany and other EU countries have strongly condemned the Embassy’s decision to host the IEBC officers in a tent under the freezing winter temperatures.

It is indeed inhuman to continue holding this exercise in a tent considering that the IEBC officers have to carry out the voter registration for 15 days until Friday 4th February 2022. Nobody can survive staying in a tent each day from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and then from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
We urge the Embassy to urgently find a better solution to this serious matter. The Embassy should make immediate arrangements to have a warm office for the IEBC voter registration officers and a warm waiting space for Kenyans coming from all parts of Germany and other EU countries to register as voters.
