German-Born Gambian set to ignite the stage at Summerjam Festival

Jatta edited scaled

Omar Jatta Summerjam 2025. Omar Jatta was born in Germany to Gambian parents, and he mixes hip-hop, Afrobeats, and the lively sound of Amapiano. From 4–6 July 2025 he will step onto the stage at the 38th Summerjam Festival in Cologne for the second year in a row. Last summer his energy and honest words won the crowd, and the festival team says they cannot wait to see him light up the park again. In their note they called him “one of the most exciting new voices” and said that every line he raps “hits with meaning.”

Omar writes about real life: the sting of racism, everyday unfairness, and the mix of African and German culture that shapes many Afro-Germans. His first six-track EP, Sprachlos (“Speechless”), shows this blend well. Songs such as “Dreamer,” “Bruder,” “Kind,” “Roots,” “Sprachlos,” and “Get Busy” carry stories of hope, family, and strength. Listeners feel both the pain and the pride that sit side by side in his life.

Big names have already noticed his work. In 2023 he won TuneCore’s Upcoming Act of the Year. The award, backed by RØDE and Hiphop.de, put him on the bill at Hype Festival, where he shared space with stars like Luciano, Rema, Black Sherif, Jazeek, and BHZ. Each show built his fan base and sharpened his stage craft.

Omar Jatta Summerjam 2025

This July Omar plans to face a crowd of about 80,000 people with his live band, “Where Am From.” Music runs deep in his family—his grandparents were respected Gambian players and singers—yet he sees his art as more than a family trade. Growing up around unfair rules and harsh words pushed him to use rhythm and rhyme as tools for change. Many writers now call him a voice that “wakes up” Afro-Germans and others who feel unseen.

Speaking to Afronews Germany, Omar shared his joy: “I am here for Gambia, Senegal, and all of Africa. Let us meet, dance, and show our rich cultures.” He is also thrilled to stand beside legends such as Burna Boy, Morgan Heritage, Beenie Man, Shenseea, and Vybz Kartel. With clear words, warm beats, and a heart set on lifting people up, Omar Jatta is ready to make Summerjam 2025 a weekend to remember.
