COVID-19 continues to spread at an alarming rate in Nigeria. The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) has disclosed on Monday Nigeria recorded 1,204 new confirmed cases of coronavirus.
So far, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria is 91,351.
The virus killed seven in the last 24 hours, bringing the country’s death toll to 1,318. Three died in Lagos, two in Sokoto, and in Kebbi and Abia respectively.
The total number of recovered coronavirus patients in Nigeria is 75,699, NCDC said.
The highest number of COVID-19 in Nigeria were recorded in Lagos, where 654 tested positive, followed by FCT (200), Plateau (60), Kaduna (54), Kano (40), Rivers (30), Edo (28), Nasarawa (25), Kebbi (19), Bauchi (18), Oyo (13), Akwa Ibom (12), Bayelsa (11), Ogun (11), Delta (9), Abia (8), Benue (5), Imo (3) Borno (2), Sokoto (1) and Osun (1).
NCDC has advised all the people who may have been exposed to COVID-19 to quarantine.
“Remember COVID-19 can spread from people that look and feel well. Don’t let your guard down around friends or relatives just because they look healthy – they may not know they are infected but can unintentionally spread COVID-19,” the agency said.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has ruled out the possibility of imposing another lockdown in Nigeria fearing for the economic and social implications, Vanguard reported.
Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who addressed newsmen in Lagos, said: “I don’t think there is anywhere the Federal Government said it will impose another lock-down. However, the Federal Government is not happy that Nigerians are not observing all the Covid-19 protocols like washing of hands and wearing of face masks. The Federal Government is aware of the economic and social implications of having another lock-down. The Federal Government will, however, urge Nigerians to follow all the Covid-19 protocols.”
