Hamburg hosts 10th Anniversary of the African Film Festival- watch the latest movies and meet directors/actors

The 10th Anniversary of the African Film Festival official opening in Afrotopia is taking place in Hamburg, Germany hosted by Augen Blicke Africa e.V.

Films from different African countries will be shown at the Studio Kino in Hamburg Bernstoffstr 93-95 from the 4th of November to the 14th.

Kenyan Radio TV host/presenter in Germany Carol Kay announced the news in a Facebook post urging all to attend and have an eye opening experience at the African Film Festival.

For Kenyans in Germany, the film ‘Softie’ was one that they resonated with given it is an English Film based on the life and political activities of Boniface Mwangi – a Kenyan political activist and photo journalist.

Upcoming films at the festival

Vote For Kibera‘ is on the 12th of November at 19:30 Hrs and is another English Documentary Film about the people of Africa’s largest slum Kibera who have decided that despite the harsh conditions and politics, they want to transform their environment into a better place to live in.

The Film director will also be present.

A Tanzania/Zanzibar Swahili/English Documentary being showed on Saturday the 6th at 17:00 hrs called ‘Ndoto ya Samira‘ which translates into ‘Samira’s dream.’

The film is about the everyday life of a young woman aged 21, determined to pursue higher education and a successful career despite social pressure, traditions, early marriage pressure etc.

The Film director will also be present.

  • Downstream to Kinshasa (D.R Congo)
  • Baamum Nafi – Nafi’s Father (Senegal)
  • The Man Who Sold His Skin (Tunisia)
  • Mabata Bata (Mozambique)
  • Eyimofe (Nigeria) among many others.
