The Family Benefits Office transfers monthly Kindergeld on different dates based on the last digit of the Kindergeld number. Kindergeld is available for all children, including those living abroad, and in 2024, the amount is 250 euros per child. Some parents may also qualify for extra financial support. The Kinderzuschlag, which is a supplement to Kindergeld, depends on the family’s income. Below are the payment dates for Kindergeld and Kinderzuschlag in October 2024.
Kindergeld in Germany 2024
In 2024, the child benefit remains at 250 euros per month per child, just like last year. However, from 2025, a new benefit will replace Kindergeld, and some parents may receive more than 600 euros per month per child. It’s important to note that the Familienkasse is increasing its checks, and some families have already been asked to repay child benefit. Kindergeld is generally granted for:
- All children up to 18 years old
- Children in school until age 25
- Unemployed children up to 21.
Parents who have been legally employed in Germany for at least six months, as well as self-employed or posted workers, can apply for the benefit.

Kindergeld payment deadline in October 2024
Due to weekends and public holidays, beneficiaries should be aware that there may be delays in Kindergeld payments throughout the year. In Germany, there is no fixed payment day for Kindergeld. The payment dates depend on the last digit of the Kindergeldnummer. Beneficiaries with the last digit 0 receive their payments at the beginning of the month, followed by those with the last digit 1, and so on. Kinderzuschlag in 2024: Additional Child Benefit Amount Explained
The Kindergeld supplement, called Kinderzuschlag, is an additional payment to the family allowance, also available to Poles living in Germany. The amount depends on the family’s income. Starting from January 1, 2024, low-income families can receive up to 292 euros per month in child allowance, an increase from the 250 euros offered in 2023. This benefit is available to parents with an average income. Those who already receive Kinderzuschlag or applied before January 2024 don’t need to take any action, as the amount will be automatically updated.
