Coronavirus has today claimed its first two victims in Germany, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the country’s disease control agency has confirmed.
The authorities have at the same time confirmed that infections in the country have reached 1,112.
One of the victims was a patient in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The person’s age or nationality were not revealed.
The other victim was a 89-year-old woman in the north-western city of Essen. Officials said she died from coronavirus less than a week after she was diagnosed.
The RKI today confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany rose to 1,112, up from 902 on Sunday.
