Due to the decrease of confirmed coronavirus infections, visitors to Bavarian hospitals and nursing homes only have to submit a negative self-test. According to the Ministry of Health, the self-test does not have to be performed in special points, it is enough to declare that the test result was negative.

An authorized negative test result taken at the testing centre, was previously required in order to enter hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centre’s and other health facilities for the elderly, disabled or in need of care.

Visitors must now pay attention

“Testing obligations are basically defined by federal law, but the Länder can make changes by regulation,” said Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU). “With the current situation regarding the number of infections and the high level of immunity of the population, we can now make testing even easier.”

“Already for vaccinated and recovered workers, an unsupervised self-test performed no more than 24 hours before is sufficient. We are now extending this option to visitors, unvaccinated and un-recovered workers,” he continues.

As in other areas of life, people’s personal responsibility is increasingly being relied upon. “For employees, the frequency of testing will also be adjusted. In future, only two tests a week will be mandatory, even for unvaccinated and unhealed workers,” emphasized the Bavarian Minister of Health.

As the federal coronavirus testing ordinance expires on February 28, 2023, it is unclear if it will be extended again. The number of testing centres will continue to be reduced. Therefore, it will be more difficult for people to get a test certificate. Thus, it seems that the decision of the government in Bavaria has been taken at the right time this time.
