While the atmosphere will be as joyful as always, there is less reason for participants to be happy this year. The festival will see a big rise in beer prices, which might dampen the excitement. A mug of beer will cost much more than in past years. The organizers of Oktoberfest in Munich have announced the price of a liter of beer in the festival tents.

What is the price of beer at Oktoberfest 2024?

During this year’s Oktoberfest 2024, which will take place in Munich from September 21 to October 6, beer lovers will need to spend more money. In many festival tents, a liter of beer, called a Maß Bier, will cost between 13.60 euros and 15.30 euros, according to “Bild.” The highest price is in the “Münchner Stubn” tent, where a beer will cost 15.30 euros.

Compared to 2023, when beer prices ranged from 12.60 euros to 14.90 euros, this year’s prices have increased by an average of 3.87 percent. It’s not just beer prices that have gone up; soft drink prices are also higher. A liter of regular lemonade will now cost an average of 11.67 euros, an increase of 50 cents from last year.

The price of water has also risen. A liter of tafelwasser (table water) now costs an average of 10.48 euros, an increase of about 4.38 percent from last year. In the most expensive tent, Kufflers Weinzelt, a liter of Spezi, a popular fizzy drink, will cost 18.40 euros, and a liter of water will cost 14.67 euros.

Clemens Baumgärtner, the head of the festival, told “Bild” that the prices are set by the breweries and festival restaurateurs themselves. The Munich city authorities have no control over them. As organizers, they only check if the prices are fair by comparing them with those in large Munich restaurants, where beer currently costs between 7.70 and 12.80 euros per liter.

Despite the higher prices, Baumgärtner argues that Oktoberfest is a unique event offering much more than just beer. He believes that everyone who attends the festival gets the chance to be part of a one-of-a-kind experience.
