This means that you can easily calculate how much you can earn in Germany. The amount of remuneration is influenced by qualifications and the place of employment (e.g. nursing home, hospital, private home).
There is a minimum hourly wage for each category of worker. According to the Wage Atlas of the Federal Employment Agency Atlas, for example, the average salary of geriatric nurses in Germany is currently € 3,174 gross. Community and medical nurses earn more.

Earnings of babysitters in Germany in 2022
In Germany, in addition to the general minimum wage, there are also industry-specific minimum wages. The minimum wage of the German Mindestlohn is – the legally set minimum permissible level of remuneration. In Germany, the minimum wage is based on hourly wages.
From September, wage increases in the care industry will come into force. For unqualified auxiliary care personnel , the minimum wage will increase from the current EUR 12 to EUR 14.15 , for skilled auxiliary care personnel from EUR 12.50 to EUR 15.25. However, in the case of qualified babysitters and guardians – from 15 to 18.25 euro. These changes affect approximately 1.2 million people in the care sector. These increases will not apply to nurses and carers employed by families.
The gradual increase in the minimum wage for qualified auxiliary care personnel will be as follows:
- from September 1, 2022 the minimum wage will increase from EUR 12.50 to EUR 14.60
- from May 1, 2023, it will increase from EUR 14.60 to EUR 14.90
- from December 1, 2023 it will increase from EUR 14.90 to EUR 15.25
The gradual increase in the minimum wage for qualified nannies and carers will be as follows:
- from 1 September 2022 the minimum wage will increase from 15 to 17.10 euro
- from May 1, 2023, it will increase from 17.10 to 17.65 euro
- from December 1, 2023, it will increase from EUR 17.65 to EUR 18.25
In addition, from September 1, 2022, people employed in the care industry will be entitled to more days of leave.
Earnings of geriatric nurses in Germany in 2022 – the amount of the monthly salary
The Federal Employment Agency’s wage Atlas shows an average salary of 3,174 euros for geriatric nurses for the whole of Germany. The median indicates the average monthly full-time gross salary. According to the Wage Atlas, 25% of the gross monthly salary of geriatric nurses is below € 2,760 and 25% is above € 3,639.
The earnings of geriatric nurses in Germany also depend on the federal state and city. The highest salaries are obtained by people employed in the west of Germany, as can be seen in the chart below from the Federal Employment Agency’s Wage Atlas.
