Coronavirus: Angela Merkel pressured to ease lockdown measures

Angela Merkel faces pressure to ease lockdown measures and reopen school as Germany’s coronavirus infections drop.

This comes after the lockdown measures were extended to April 19th which left a lot of Germans not celebrating the Easter season with their family and friends.

While trying to enforce social distancing, police men and women are being attacked with stones and iron bars by those ‘tired’ of staying inside.

Groups of thugs attacked German police with iron bars and threw stones when the officers tried to disperse them.

The groups were breaking Germany’s strict lockdown rules in Frankfurt and are said to have used iron bars to attack cops who came to enforce social distancing rules.

One group member broke the window of a police car after throwing a stone at it when an officer got out to ask them to leave.

Merkel, who has urged a cautious approach to any loosening of restrictions, will hold a video conference on Wednesday after the governor of the state with the most infections called for a ‘road map’ to return to normality.

The academy of sciences Leopoldina recommended a gradual relaxing of restrictions in stages should new infections stabilize and personal hygiene measures to avoid the spreading of the novel coronavirus maintained.

The academies report should set the pace for the relaxing of the set measures come Wednesday April 15th.

The head of the Academy, Gerald Haug, said these measures could only go forward accompanied by an obligation to wear a face mask while riding in public transport to prevent a resurgence of infections.

He recommended that every person should have a form of protection should some people not be able to practice social distancing.

Other politicians, like Dietmar Woidke, governor of Brandenburg, have called for a more cautious approach to avoid the risk of negating the work Germany has done to combat the virus.

Germany has reported 2,537 new cases recently marking consecutive days of decline. The total number of infected now hitting 130,072 . The death toll is also on its third day of decline after it rose by 126 to 3,194.
