Germany will have to review the order of its coronavirus vaccine priority list following a recommendation from its vaccine authority not to give the Astra Zeneca vaccine to people over 65.
Health Minister Jens Spahn said, “We will now have to reviews the order of the vaccination because of the age limitations of the Astra Zeneca vaccine that accompany it. “
This announcement comes a day after the European Medicine Agency recommend authorisation of the Astra Zeneca COVID vaccine for anyone over the age of 18.
The European Medicine Agency (EMA) however said that there were not enough results to demonstrate how effective the vaccine would be if administered to older patients. They would also not restrict it to people under the age of 55 based on ‘evidence in the trials’ and the ‘safety profile’.

Euronews reported that one of the main reasons the Astra Zeneca COVID vaccine is not highly recommend is cause there isn’t enough data to support it’s efficiency in the elderly.
Health minster Jens Spahn said he wanted apply the decision of German experts and that the vaccine would be used in younger people such as care workers.
Germany has so far vaccinated 1.8 million people. The country has reported 2.2 million COVID-19 cases and more than 56,000 deaths.
