Nollywood Mourns the Loss of Actor Junior Pope in Tragic Accident

Nigerian news. Nollywood actor Junior Pope dead. Nollywood actor Junior Pope Odonwodo, also known as Jnr Pope, tragically passed away in a boat accident while filming a movie in Nigeria’s Delta state, according to his fellow actors.

Initially, there were reports that he survived the accident after doctors attempted to revive him in the hospital. However, Emeka Rollas Ejezie, the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), later confirmed the sad news on Facebook, mentioning that despite efforts from two notable hospitals, Junior Pope couldn’t be revived.

Videos circulating on social media show rescuers carrying the unconscious actor out of the River Niger, where the incident occurred late Wednesday.

Prior to the accident, the 39-year-old actor had posted a video on his Instagram page showing him and four others traveling to the movie location on a boat. In the video, he expressed concerns about safety measures and prayed for a safe journey.

Junior Pope was known for his roles as a criminal, villain, bodyguard, and hitman in over 150 Nollywood movies. His fellow actors have expressed their grief on social media. This loss adds to the recent deaths of two other Nollywood stars, John Okafor (Mr Ibu) and Amaechi Muonagor, further impacting the industry.
