Who is RAISE – The Gambian Helping Hands?
RAISE – The Gambian Helping Hands promotes international relations between the Gambia and Germany. It facilitates connections between the schools in Germany and the Gambia and supports Gambian schools and teachers with educational materials.
RAISE – The Gambian helping Hands plans projects, implements and monitors them with the help of the Gambian associations. Through Mr. Yahya Sonko, an experienced Gambian refugee activist who is the Vice Chair of the association, RAISE – The Gambian helping Hands works with Gambian refugees in Germany.
The association also organises seminars and workshops about asylum and integration procedures in Germany. It also provides legal support to enable Gambians in Germany obtain their national documents. The association also raises funds to support Gambian refugees in case of emergency.
During deportations, RAISE – The Gambian helping Hands normally helps deportees pack and transport back home their valuable belongings.
It also takes care of transporting to the Gambia the bodies of Gambian refugees and immigrants who die in Germany.
The association has set up education and entrepreneurship project in the Gambia to support Gambians in Germany who would like to voluntarily return home.

What are the AFRONEWS Awards?
The Afronews Awards celebrate and recognise the outstanding achievements of Africans in different fields in Germany. They are a way of appreciating and encouraging Africans who have excelled in different fields and are making a positive contribution to the German society.
The Awards also recognise the good work done by African organisations/associations and businesses to promote a positive image of Africa and Africans, facilitate integration of Africans in Germany, promote business opportunities and international cooperation between Germany and African countries, and above all, make Germany and the world a better place for all of us.
The Afronews Awards Gala Night 2023 is organised by Afronews, the newspaper for Africans in Germany in collaboration with GMB Promotions, founded and headed by Christopher Mendy alias Chris Black, the winner of the Best African Events Organiser 2022 Award at the last edition of Afronews Awards.
