Domestic workers in Italy who had one or more work contracts by 23rd February 2020 for more than 10 hours per week will receive a monthly allowance of 500 euros for the months of April and May 2020.
In order to qualify for the allowance, the domestic workers must not be living in with the employers. They must also not be beneficiaries of the other allowances introduced by “Cura Italia” Decree which was approved by the government to contain the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic emergency.
Who is the allowance supposed to benefit?
The allowance is meant to support domestic workers in Italy who had a reduction of 25% of their working hours due to the coronavirus lockdown measures. This one-off allowance will be paid by INPS (the National Social Security Institute (INPS) directly to the workers. They will be able to seek free assistance from Patronato (Italian welfare agency) in preparing and submitting the applications. Domestic workers however must wait until the Relaunch Decree is published in the Official Gazette.
