Americans stranded in Ghana planning to sue US government

A group of US citizens and green-card holders stranded in Ghana are planning to sue the US government because of leaving them stranded.

When Ghana’s president indefinitely closed down the country’s borders in March due to the pandemic they got stuck with no means to get home to their loved ones.

Many of them are New Yorkers and are complaining that they are running out of funds and are soon becoming very desperate.

“Since I stopped dishing out money and attending to family problems I am hardly loved” – Esther Akothee

The State Department stopped bringing people back to the U.S. in May after arranging seven repatriation flights.

There has been a handful of special charters since then for Americans, but the demand and the prices are so high, most are still there.

Senator Schumer said he can’t comment on specific cases or lawsuits, but his office is working with the State Department and U.S. Embassy in Ghana to help the Americans who are stuck there get back home.
