Afrika Film Festival in Cologne to celebrate women’s roles in African cinema

The 14th edition of Afrika Film Festival in Cologne will take place from 15th to 25th September 2016.

This year’s Festival focuses on Sisters in African Cinema to celebrate the increasingly important roles women play in African cinema both on-screen and behind the camera. It wants to present the current filmmaking exploits of African women and to pit Euro-centric perceptions of women in Africa against the reality seen through the eyes of African women.

“Ayanda” narrates the story of a young woman struggling to save her late father’s car repair shop while also struggling to keep his legacy alive.

Organised by FilmInitiativ Köln e.V., the event offers a comprehensive insight into contemporary African cinema.

Those who will attend the Festival will have a chance of watching 85 films from 25 African countries (All genres).

“The Boda Boda Thieves”, “Necktie Youth”, “As I Open My Eyes”, and “Ayanda” are some of the latest African movies to be screened at the Festival.

Apart from featuring latest African films, the Afrika Film Festival in Cologne will also feature exhibitions, readings as well as school and children’s screenings.

The Festival will take place in five different locations in Köln.
